Most of our rail bikes are pedal-powered, giving you a fun, active way to explore the outdoors at your own pace. However, at our Jenkins Beach Station in Maine, we now offer our first-ever fleet of electric-assist rail bikes. These e-bikes make the journey more accessible and enjoyable—perfect for those looking for a little extra boost while still enjoying the ride.

Absolutely! Rail biking is an environmentally friendly activity. Here’s why:

Low Emissions: Powered by you, our rail bikes make for a clean, green journey through nature. At select locations, some rail bikes use small battery-assisted systems, which still produce far fewer emissions than traditional motorized recreation.

Existing Infrastructure: Rail biking utilizes historic, repurposed railway tracks, avoiding the need for new construction, which preserves natural habitats.

Quiet Operation: Rail bikes operate quietly, minimizing noise pollution and reducing disturbances to wildlife.

Rail biking offers a sustainable, eco-friendly way to experience scenic landscapes and enjoy the outdoors!

To ensure a smooth experience, we ask that you arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled departure. Rail bike tours are launched in groups at scheduled intervals. Your Guides will lead you through a comprehensive and delightful tour, sharing the rich history of the railroads and the surrounding landscape.

Upon reaching your destination, enjoy a 10-20 minute break to stretch, soak in the scenery, and replenish with snacks you've brought. Then, our Guides will turn the bikes around for a leisurely, scenic journey back to the station.

Absolutely! Rail biking with Revolution Rail is perfect for the whole family. There is no minimum or maximum age limit.

Infants and little ones under 25 pounds are welcome to ride along with an adult in a Baby Bjorn-style harness. Please bring your own. For safety, car seats aren’t permitted, as they do not fit our seats securely.

Children who can sit up on their own or weigh more than 25 pounds must have their own seats and cannot sit on your lap. They may use our five-point harness to help keep them safely seated during the ride.

For children under 15, we ask that they ride with an adult on the same rail bike.

At this time, we offer double and quad tickets only. Our rail bikes are designed for a minimum of two people, ensuring a shared and enjoyable experience. Additionally, our quad bikes can accommodate groups of three, allowing for a comfortable journey together.

If you’re hoping to ride solo, we occasionally offer a conductor seat, where a guest can ride along with one of our Guides. Because this seat isn’t always available, it cannot be booked online. Please call us or inquire in person to see if a conductor seat may be available for your ride.

Each of our rail biking routes offers a unique experience, with options to match a range of physical abilities. All it takes is one person to pedal, so riders of all ages and abilities are welcome to join the fun. It is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace to give you a chance to take in your surroundings.

If you can comfortably walk for about 1.5 hours, you’re ready to roll with us! Your safety and enjoyment are always our top priorities, and we’re here to help you choose the perfect adventure for you.

We are committed to making rail biking accessible to people of all ages and abilities! Currently, our bikes have a weight capacity of 300 lbs per person as the rail bikes do not function as designed over that weight. If you have concerns about accessibility, please send us an email at info@revrail.com for assistance. We are happy to discuss accommodations with you!

To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience, we recommend bringing the following items:

Water: Stay hydrated throughout the day.
Snacks: Keep your energy up with some light refreshments.
Camera: Capture the memories of your adventure.
Sunscreen: Protect your skin!
Insect Repellent: Avoid pesky bug bites.
Appropriate Outerwear: Dress for the weather forecast with hats, windbreakers, rain gear, and other suitable clothing.

Each of our rail bikes are equipped with baskets where you can store these items. We're delighted to have you join us and look forward to providing you with a memorable experience at Revolution Rail!

Most of our rail biking tours are low-intensity, so you can come as you are! Our best advice is to dress according to the weather forecast and bring suitable outerwear, such as hats for sun protection and windbreakers or ponchos for rain.

For our Pedals to Paddles and Rails to River rides, water shoes or sandals with a heel strap are required. Flip-flops or bare feet are not permitted. You can purchase water shoes at the Depot if needed. We want everyone to have a comfortable and enjoyable experience!

Our tours run rain or shine, ensuring your adventure continues unless dangerous conditions are occurring or imminent. Our experienced Guides will make real-time decisions about any necessary delays or cancellations and, whenever possible, will wait out questionable weather. To stay comfortable, we recommend dressing in layers, bringing a raincoat or windbreaker, and packing a change of clothes, just in case. If we cancel a tour due to dangerous weather, you'll receive a full refund. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we appreciate your understanding.

Trip times vary from about 1 to 4 hours, depending on the location and tour. Check our website for details about specific tours. We kindly ask that you arrive 20 minutes before your departure time. This allows you ample time to check in and enjoy some friendly conversation with us before your tour begins. We look forward to spending this special time with you and ensuring you have a delightful experience from start to finish.

We’re glad you asked! Our trips change in small ways based on the time of year or special events. For the most accurate schedule, be sure to check our website or contact us directly before planning your adventure.

Ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft may be available to our station, especially from nearby towns, but please note: our locations are often in more remote locations, and it can be very difficult to find a return ride on-demand. We strongly recommend that you arrange your return transportation in advance, whether that means scheduling a pickup ahead of time, coordinating with a local driver, or having a backup plan in place.

Both our Weekend Tubing and Pedals to Paddles adventures combine the same 5-mile rail bike ride with a 6-mile float on the Rio Grande, for a total of about 3-5 hours for the entire experience.

Tubing (Weekend Tubing): A laid-back float in an individual tube. It’s slower-paced, relaxing, and perfect for taking in the scenery with minimal effort. Tubing adds $45 per person and takes about 2-4 hours.

Rafting (Pedals to Paddles): A relaxed float in a larger inflatable raft, guided by a professional from Rocky Mountain Ski and Raft. Your guide handles the rowing from the back of the raft, so you can sit back, take in the views, and enjoy the ride. Rafting adds $65 per person and takes about 2 hours. There are a few spots where you can jump in if you’d like, but most of the splash comes from the water guns. You can also choose a “dry boat” option, where the guides keep the water guns off your raft—so you’ll only get the occasional splash from the river itself.

Both options are family-friendly, include safety instruction and gear, and run on the same scenic section of the Rio Grande. The choice comes down to whether you’d like a more relaxed experience (tubing) or a more active, guided one (rafting). Because of the splash factor, it’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for after your trip just in case!

We kindly recommend reserving your ride in advance, as availability for same-day bookings or on-the-spot arrivals cannot be guaranteed, especially for larger groups. We strongly recommend reserving your ride at least 1-2 weeks in advance, especially for weekends.

No, you do not need one rail bike per person. Each Double rail bike seats 2 people, and each Quad rail bike seats 4 people. For example, if you're booking for 2 people, you only need 1 Double rail bike, not 2. Please keep this in mind when making your reservation to avoid overbooking.

If you encounter any difficulties reserving your ride on our website, don’t worry! We’re here to help! Simply send us a message with the location you’re interested in, or email us at info@revrail.com. You can expect a response within 24 hours.

Our rail biking experiences are priced based on location and run, ranging from $90 to $320 per rail bike before taxes & fees. Accurate prices for each run will be displayed during the booking process.

Please note that these prices cover the basic rail bike trips. Additional activities, such as tubing or rafting, may have extra charges. For instance, you can enhance your adventure with tubing for an additional $35 per person by booking our Rails to River tour in North Creek, NY.
